on a side note, you can try using lxc with setarch ( linux-utils) provide i386 emulation to run chef-server in side a container. I was able to run chef server inside a container, but i dont know how it will react to setarch. i can share the lxc related details on chefserver installation/automation, but you have to test the setarch bit.

Chef Server, which currently builds for x64. I do Chef Client builds
on PPC Ubuntu, so ARM should work fine but it may be a little
underpowered.
