I found opscode-mixlib-config on github, but this doesn't seem to satisfy the dependency...

Weird. Add http://gems.opscode.com to your gem sources, then try. I'll look into the github issue.

Ahh yes forgot about the opscode repo :-) Also, I had to install merb-slice to get it running but now I'm able to successfully run

rake features:provider:remote_file 

and everything passes

Off to lunch. Will undoubtedly be back with more questions later :-)
