I just fixed a bug with the chef package regarding talking to Karmic's new CouchDB 0.10.0 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chef/+bug/419112 / http://tickets.opscode.com/browse/CHEF-515). I believe Alessio from Ubuntu has patched this and released updated packages (0.7.8-0ubuntu2)
