OK, should be my last problem for a while! I see the template cached file under /var/chef/cache/cookbooks/ and it has a piece like this:

/erlexec -smp enable -init_debug

But when the file is written to disk from the template (and this is how the file was before I updated the template and uploaded to the repo) is:

/erlexec -init_debug

How is this possible??
