[chef] PHP cookbook questions?

Folks,

In the Opscode PHP cookbook at 
<https://github.com/opscode/cookbooks/tree/master/php>, there is a four-line 
recipe for installing the php-mongo PECL (well, one comment line and three 
Ruby lines).  But I'm not quite clear on what would be the most "Chefly" way 
to implement this.  Should I modify my version of the PHP cookbook to include 
these lines, or should I create a separate cookbook & recipe for this stuff?
