Hi All,
I have a chef-server configured where I can assign my recipies to particular nodes. Now I have some doubts which I have listed below:-
For creating a chef-client, all we do is install chef-client on that node.
Now we copy the validation.pem in /etc/chef directory.
Let us suppose my client-machine's name is kickseed1
Now for making it able to talk to chef-server, I need the client.pem file.
All I have to do is goto chef-server and create a client with the name "kickseed1" and then copy the generated chef-client key to chef-client's /etc/chef directory.
Only now if we fire chef-client command, our node will be registered to chef-server.
Q1. My question is why do we need to register our machine with machine-name as client to get the node registered??
Or is it that I have done some wrong configuration??
Q2. Also I am unable to get clearly the distinction between client and node in chef.
Q3. Is it that one physical/virtual machine will correspond to one node and in that node we can have n number of clients(user accounts).
Thanks and Regards
