It works, but I had to add the line
"json_class": "Chef::Node",
to the json created by the show sub-commands
as mentionned at 'http://tickets.opscode.com/browse/CHEF-2352'

A suggestion for the documentation would be to update
"
 - node from file FILE (options)
       Create a node from a JSON file.
"
to 
"
 - node from file FILE (options)
       Create / edit a node from a JSON file.
"
