The best way and easy way to build chef-server by far I've found is using the knife-server gem.

so I am using Ubuntu Server 12.04LTS. and I downloaded omnibus package of chef.
chef was installed to /opt, but it is to hard to build 'chef-server'
environment. I
have to build with couchdb and rabitmq ... and I have to notice version
relationship
of these software. ;)

The chef-server cookbook should have no problem building out a Chef server.

There's a handy guide for using this:

If you've got Chef installed via Omnibus you can start at the second
step, "Configure Chef-solo."

yes, I just found this url this week. :D

I'm thinking about building chef-server with rvm or rbenv and
ruby1.9.2 by this chef-solo. so I have to think about managing ruby
version. Because it will be a problem in some case that I can not
use some new class (Resoueces such as package, template, etc..) with
my old ruby version.

thanks a lot bryan. :)
