I did. Some people have trouble dealing with things if they are implemented
using software they're not already familiar with, which with regard to
mailing lists, that may mean that if they're not managed with Mailman or
Google Groups, then some people just can't cope.
The irony is that I have been a contributor to the Mailman project for years,
and we're now in the process of doing a complete rebuild of the mail system
for python.org (and Mailman). However, while I support Mailman and I believe
it is a good choice in this space, I also recognize the basic problem.
Towards that end, I have offered my skills and knowledge to help convert this
list over to Google Groups, if Opscode is still interested in doing so. I
figure I can do pretty much all the work that needs to be done, so long as
they tell me who the official list owners should be. Once that work is
completed, I would of course hand over full control to the appropriate
personnel.
Anyway, the offer is on the table, and I'm happy to do this at no charge (or
only a nominal charge, depending on the requirements that Opscode has for
this kind of work). All I care about is trying to contribute something
useful back to the Chef community, and if this is one way I can do that, then
I am happy to do so.
