Thanks. You've kind of answered what I feared.
I have started passing the Ohai attributes as a variables hash in the recipe to the template they are needed in.

My concern is that it adds a layer of complication that I was trying to avoid, that makes the cookbook less portable for those where their data wouldn't be in Ohai - Or where I can still allow attributes to be overridden at the node or role level.

Then again, I'm already loading attributes via Ohai, so I have added the complication.
