Thanks for the good idea.  Crafty.

I tried this, see that it works, and understand why.  The downside I 
discovered
is that notifications take place during a second pass.  This causes challenges
for subsequent resources that nominally execute in the first pass.

For example, after my template and execute resources, I have a service
resource.  With the extra indirection, I have to add a conditional to the
service resource so that it won't execute until the /etc/init.d entry is
created by the execute resource (which is now split in two).
