I note on https://github.com/opscode/chef-docs/issues/72#issuecomment-23634431
that people have made it work, but I don't want to go too far off the beaten
path if that's just asking for trouble.

Per http://community.opscode.com/chat/chef#id-421805 , my VM provider isn't
keen on Ubuntu for servers, so I need some guidance as to how best to proceed.
