Hi,

I've been called to the table, so here it is: it's not an undocumented feature, but rather additional configuration points to be used by another cookbook. To set up Icinga, you need to have Nagios cookbook at least v5.0.0 (to include https://tickets.opscode.com/browse/COOK-3287 that implements these extra attributes), and use the Icinga cookbook (https://github.com/3ofcoins/chef-cookbook-icinga) that makes use of these attributes to install Icinga instead of Nagios. You use the "icinga" cookbook on the Icinga server, and configure the node['nagios'][…] attributes and nagios_whatever data bags as for the "nagios" cookbook.

The Icinga cookbook is unfortunately only on GitHub, as I've had no success trying to contact maintainer of community portal's "icinga" cookbook (http://community.opscode.com/cookbooks/icinga) which seems to be abandoned.

If you have any questions or issues using the icinga cookbook, feel free to contact me here or off-list.

Morgan,

Try contacting Maciej who made the additions to the Nagios cookbook to add icinga support.  He mentioned at one point adding documentation, but at the moment it is an undocumented feature.

You might benefit from using one of the Icinga specific cookbooks, rather than trying to cross-fit all the Nagios settings to the Icinga environment. Particularly if you're instlaling from packages instead of building from source tarballs, getting all the layout details consistent with distribution packages can be quite a lot of work.

Subject: [chef] Nagios cookbook and icinga?

I know the release notes mentioned that support for configuring icinga instead of Nagios has been added, but there doesn't seem to be any information in the docs about how to go about this. Before diving into the commits that added support, does anyone have a guide for this?

Thanks!
