You remind me of a terrible omission...I am forced to use
a specific version of Chef:

Running chef-solo...

...but I grep'ed for that code (3694) in my log and saw nothing...I will
rerun with debug on to confirm.

Are you getting warnings for CHEF-3694 earlier in the logs?
