Are there any plans then to tackle Issues #48 (https://github.com/opscode-cookbooks/chef-server/issues/48) and related #52 (https://github.com/opscode-cookbooks/chef-server/issues/52) anytime soon?

I myself wrote a PR for this months ago: https://github.com/opscode-cookbooks/chef-server/pull/56. Other have as well; see PR #54: https://github.com/opscode-cookbooks/chef-server/pull/54.
