Hi everyone,

We just did another major update on the apache2 cookbook. This time focused mostly on mod_ssl providing you with attributes to change the ciphersuite and at the same defaulted them to more modern defaults. The cookbook now also defaults to apache 2.4 for platforms it is not aware of. We also attempted to set the right MPM attribute based on each platform that we test, saving you from having to do this on those platforms yourself.

There is still plenty to do for the cookbook and welcome any feedback for future releases, but it is a great milestone to get this released. The cookbook still supports apache httpd 2.2, however, it does it in a more 2.4 compatible way. Because of this some configuration files and directives will not load correctly without making updates to your templates and cookbooks.

We have bumped the major version number to reflect the significant amount of changes and incompatibility you may experience. It may be a drop in replacement for some, but very likely not for many of you. It is unlikely this new version is fully compatible with your existing cookbooks!

Please look at the CHANGELOG for an overview of the changes.

Next up in the roadmap is to allow changing for MPMs more easily on those platforms that support that with test suites that cover each MPM. We will also look at updating the definitions to more modern constructs such as LWRPs.

Thank you for all your contributions and feedback. It is much appreciated.
