I'll look at it, thank you. In the meantime, I've been working low priority on a fork if one of the older 'hosts' cookbooks. I just published a fresh tag at https://github.com/nkadel-skyhook/nkadel-chef-hosts. That's working very well for me, and handles 'FQDN as loopback optional' and 'FQDN as ipaddress optional' especially well.
