Because we were developing Chef so much faster than the release cycle
for Debian and Ubuntu, we stopped working on including them upstream a
while ago. There are a few folks in the community working now on
bringing those back up to date.
You can get the latest Chef packages from our apt server. Instructions
are available here:
http://wiki.opscode.com/display/chef/Installing+Chef+Server+on+Debian+or+Ubuntu+using+Packages
I haven't created a repository for Ubuntu 12.04 yet, but you should be
able to use the 11.10 repository. If it doesn't work, it means we will
have to do something special for 12.04 so definitely file a bug if you
encounter any problems.
