Thanks Serdar. I used the partial_search.rb mentioned in CHEF-3878 and put it in lib/chef/search/, it works!

Yes this is in the plans and being tracked by this ticket:

However we first need to bring in the partial_search cookbook into chef core. So this is not a trivial change.
