Quick update here, I just merged the omnibus patches for ChefDK:
https://github.com/opscode/omnibus-chef/pull/150 At this point it should be
possible to at least build locally. We also merged in an update to make the
MSI creation more generalized so it can support projects other than just
chef-client. Since I just merged my Omnibus changes late this afternoon, we
haven’t had a chance to do a full build including MSI creation, so there
could be some updates required there.
If you do a build, it should succeed (modulo MSI stuff) but will leave you
with a only somewhat functional copy of chef-client. I’ve confirmed that our
patches to use win32ole directly (here:
https://github.com/opscode/chef/pull/1405) fix the issues we’ve had with
ruby-wmi, but we need to extract the duplicated code between ohai and chef to
a shared library. That work is in progress now. We also will need to update
the chef-dk application to use a newer version of chef-client, as it
currently depends on the release version which has a dependency on a ruby
1.9-only windows gem. We’ll try to get that sorted today.
