Title:
I see that C&C tools were discussed a little while ago on the list (http://lists.opscode.com/sympa/arc/chef/2011-01/msg00084.html), but I didn't see a lot of specific tools mentioned. What is the current wisdom regarding C&C, especially in an EC2 environment? I'm looking for something that can close the feedback loop between provisioning/bootstrapping (knife/fog, CloudFormation), configuration (Chef), and monitoring (Nagios/Cloudkick). Slide #29 of http://www.slideshare.net/jesserobbins/using-chef-for-automated-infrastructure-in-the-cloud) illustrates what I'm looking to do.

I came across http://www.opscode.com/blog/2009/06/26/adam-jacob-ezra-zygmuntowicz-demo-chef-nanite-at-velocity-2009/, and nanite looks promising, but I haven't seen much about it since then. The previous mailing list discussion that I linked mentioned RunDeck, and I see that Chef already integrates well with it, but I'm not sure if it has the callbacks/API to allow it to automate the provisioning and configuration tasks.

Thank you in advance for any information; it is appreciated.
