In general the porting process is
1) Port the omnibus build toolchain to the platform.
2) Build the omnibus-chef package.
3) Test and fix any resources as necessary.
4) Upstream patches to omnibus, omnibus-chef, ohai, and chef as necessary.
Getting "officially supported" builds is a more involved process,
because we have to get the new platform incorporated into Chef's CI
infrastructure, included in the standard release mechanisms and have
the Support infrastructure to deal with customers who have issues on
those platforms (this is why Chef runs on much more than is
"officially supported"). We did this previously with IBM for AIX and
we're going through this now adding Linux on POWER.
