Jim,

I highly encourage you to slow down a little and take some time to read around Chef and the ecosystem.

I can only drive you to

https://learn.chef.io/learn-the-basics/windows/

http://docs.chef.io/ (all the "About XXX" pages worth being read)

https://github.com/Nordstrom/chef-vault/blob/master/THEORY.md for the chef-vault part specifically

https://www.chef.io/blog/2013/12/03/doing-wrapper-cookbooks-right/ This blog post (with the links inside)

https://www.chef.io/solutions/windows/#dsc <= specifically for windows things and to take advantage of DSC (Desired State Configuration)

http://jtimberman.housepub.org/blog/categories/chef/ last I think of but plenty of usefull informations.

I hope this can help you get more overview over the use of resources, LWRP, and how to use resources from one cookbook within another one (LWRP use).

Doing more would be a full time work, and I'm not paid for this, you may engage for a cusotmer support with Chef Inc. if you really need it and can't spend too much time learning by yourself.

Regards

Hi,

Sorry that this might be a kind of broad/vague question, but some of the recipes in the chef-splunk cookbook (https://github.com/chef-cookbooks/chef-splunk) like the "server" recipe, require that something be set up in another cookbook, chef-vault, but I've been reading the information there (both on the chef-splunk and on the chef-vault pages) and it's not clear to me exactly what needs to be done?

Can someone explain what I need to do to get that part setup?

Thanks,
Jim
