I had the same issue few days ago, I downgraded to Cucumber 1.0.6 by setting the gem number as follows in the Gemfile

# remove version specific later

gem 'cucumber', '1.0.6'

Bundler settled on json 1.5.2 to keep both cucumber 1.0.6 and chef 0.10.4 happy...

You can upgrade in the future
