I assume you're talking about the OS/400 PASE?

Currently we don't have any plans on the roadmap to support OS/400 PASE binaries, even though the AIX Chef Client is compiled with IBM XL C/C++. I suspect that the required pointer alignment special-handling would make Ruby a non-starter.

I did read the link but still have a question: does it worth a try inside an os400 Aix emulation ?

(the try of chef client on os400 is in my to-do list for a while but I've less freedom on this system, may it worth an effort from me to free time for it or am I the only one wishing to drive os400 systems with chef ?)

See the chef-client release notes for additional information about installing the chef-client on AIX:

Ohai Chefs,

Today we have a few exciting news items on the Chef Client side.

1. Chef Client 12 Release Candidate is now available.

Check out our blog post https://www.getchef.com/blog/2014/11/04/chef-client-12-0-0-release-candidate/ about the first release candidate of our next major version of Chef Client.

We're trying to ensure that the migration path to Chef Client 12 is as frictionless as possible. We need your help in order to do this. Give this release a test drive in your infrastructure and let us know if you're running into any issues. We'll be ready to help :)

2. All AIX, All the time!

We are also very pleased to announce that we now have a technical preview of the Chef Client for AIX 6.1 and 7.1 on the IBM POWER platform.

If any of you happen to have an IBM POWER system hanging out that could use some love, feel free to install and test this out. More information on the platform will be coming in the near future, but we wanted to let you get your hands on it as soon as possible!

(note: we do not support AIX as a knife workstation)

Thank you!
